Description

The Cabin

This private, brand new (2018) hand built log dovetail cabin is what mountain getaway dreams are made of. This luxuriously rustic cabin is designed for 5 people. The cabin is on a 160-acre working ranch. Located in the middle of several mountain ranges and national parks, this is your base for unlimited mountain adventure. 20 minutes West of Golden, BC. We have seasonal farm tours available for a fee. Eggs and pork are currently available in our small farm store on an honor payment system.

At the Whisper Ranch Bison cabin, you can curl up under a blanket by the wood stove after an adventurous day out in the mountains. This cabin is across the road from our working ranch. Depending on our schedule, there are paid ranch tours available. We currently have milking cows, chickens, and pigs. You can visit our Whisper Ranch website for information. Yes, in the distance we have roosters that crow, cows that moo and livestock guardian dogs that bark. We don't hear them, but probably because they are the soothing sounds of the ranch to us. Some nights are louder than others. If you are a light sleeper you may hear farm noises at night. There are no city noises here, so you may also hear the sounds of other local wildlife. It's the real deal here. There is also no light pollution so on a clear night you can even see the Milky Way! There is a master bedroom located on the main floor with a queen bed. The upstairs loft includes one queen bed and one twin bed. Comfy mattresses by Endy. The loft is accessible by ladder and is a great place for kids to have their own space or additional adults. A portable crib is available on request. USB chargers are located near all beds and other locations in the cabin. The main floor has a well-equipped kitchen including a full-size oven and fridge. A French Press and coffee and tea with real cream are included. There is no dishwasher or microwave. As we are encouraging people to come and get-away from the usual distractions of life, we have specifically opted not to include Wi-Fi. In case of an emergency, Wi-Fi is available by special request. In lieu of Wi-Fi, we have included board and card games. A Bose Bluetooth speaker system is in the cabin. From construction to operation this cabin has been sustainably and eco-friendly built. Toilets consume an astonishing amount of water, so to preserve our environment we have chosen to use composting toilet technology. The compost ends up back out on our pastures. A ceiling fan is installed in the cabin but there is no air conditioning. This cabin is your base for backcountry skiing, downhill skiing, dog sledding, mountain biking, hiking, snowmobiling, climbing, whitewater rafting, paragliding, horseback riding and many more adventures! * Our intent is to provide ski trails and hiking trails on the ranch in the future. Currently, we are not set up to do so. At this time until we have better ranch fencing, we cannot accept pets as interactions with our ranch animals from visiting pets is not a good scenario for anyone. Thanks for understanding * ** Please note there is also another log cabin under construction next door. There will be daytime noise and activity associated with this. If you are interested in log cabin construction, we'd be happy to share a few minutes of our time to show you all about it **

Guest Access

Guest may access the full property on the lower side of the road. The high side of the road is our working ranch and is available for paid tours if schedule permits.

Guest Interaction

We are an energetic busy family. With all sorts of family activities and operating a working ranch and construction business. We are busy for sure! We will be available by phone for emergencies but may not always be near the cabin.

Neighbourhood Overview

The cabin is situated across the road from our main working ranch. Our ranch is 160 acres. The neighboring properties are sparsely populated so it is a true mountain wilderness experience. Wildlife viewing at it's best! Typically we get winter wonderland amounts of snow and beautiful hot summers. We are 20 minutes West of Golden, BC. We are 35 minutes West of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort. We are 35 minutes West of Yoho National Park. We are 1 hour West of Banff National Park. We are 30 minutes East of Glacier National Park. We are 55 minutes East of Mount Revelstoke National Park. We are 45 minutes to Kinbasket Lake. In Golden, you will find all manner of excellent restaurants and two main grocery stores. Our cabin is about 40 minutes to the summit of Rogers Pass, making it the ideal base for world renown backcountry skiing and hiking. Golden is home to Kicking Horse Mountain resort which boasts many days of champagne powder! Almost every imaginable outdoor pursuit is a short drive from our cabin.

Getting Around

There is no public transportation available. There is taxi service in Golden. Winter tires are a must when visiting in the winter. A 4x4 or all-wheel drive vehicle is preferred. Winter road closures throughout the area are frequent. Please travel with warm clothes and winter gear.

BEARS: We live in a bear country. Both black and grizzly bears come through the property. Grizzly's sometimes pass here in mid-May to eat the dandelions. There has never been a problem with bears on our property. For safety, do not leave food or garbage outside that attracts bears. Make noise and walk outside in a group of 2 or more. If you find yourself close to a grizzly or black bear slowly back away. Having a bear spray also comes in handy. Bears are wild and beautiful part of life here in our valley. It is extremely rare that anyone in the valley is threatened or harmed by a bear.

ASSUMPTION OF RISKS

I accept all the dangers and risks inherent in outdoor activities including but not limited to the hazards presented by changeable weather, wild animals, and the possibility of becoming lost in the forest.

One of the requirements for our trip to Canada was a secluded location. The Bison Cabin fit the bill perfectly! Close enough to Golden for a quick trip to the grocery store, but far enough away from lots of people. Can't wait to come back and sit in that super comfy recliner!

Wow!

Wow, what a place. Beautiful, new, but traditional handmade cabin in the woods. Peaceful. Perfect.

Impressed!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the cabin. On our last morning, huge flakes of snow fell for a few hours and we felt like we were the feature in a snow globe; it was picture-perfect. The cabin has lots of good-sized windows, so you can really see the forest to the sides and back of the cabin. We were also impressed that the windows all open in two directions: at the top and at the side (depending how you turn the handle). For anyone who is leery of being too deep in the woods, not to worry: the country road is out front of the cabin, but because you are nearly at the end of the road, there is no traffic. Also, you can drive up to within about 2 feet of the door so it's super easy to load and unload your vehicle. We were also impressed by all of the safety features: CO monitors, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, even rope ladders! It's a lovely "backcountry" experience that is still near a town: our hosts dropped by with fresh cream from their cows, and we bought some fantastic multi-coloured eggs from their children, who are looking after the hens and saving money for big purchases. We're all feeling very refreshed by the fresh air and the feeling of having gotten away from it all for the weekend.

Get Away!

What a delightful and luxurious ‘rustic’ cabin. This cabin has a ‘rustic’ feel with all the luxurious comforts to make the stay super-comfortable. In such a picturesque landscape one can’t help but stand at the window and gaze out into the amazingly serene and beautiful British Columbia wilderness. Our kids put the ipad away and romped through the woods, chopped wood and split kindling for a roaring fire in the woodstove and spent the evening laughing and enjoying a family evening in the warm and comfortable cabin. The beds were even more comfortable than our own at home. The kitchen is convenient and very well supplied. Lots of hot water washed off the day of skiing and playing in the snow. We felt like we were secluded in our own piece of paradise but only twenty minutes from the quaint village of Golden. Our hosts seem to have thought of everything possible to make this a pleasurable stay that will be remembered for years to come. We long to return again and again.

Superb!

Superb accommodation in a quiet, rural setting off the beaten path. Don’t pass up on an opportunity to stay here, explore the region and take advantage of the skiing. The cabin is everything Chad describes in words and photos and is nothing short of perfect. Thanks again for having us!

We'll be back!

Just came back from a few beautiful days at Chad's amazing cabin. Great location, clean and very cozy. I needed a quick get-away with my 17 year old son and this place delivered perfectly. Ski toured in Rogers Pass one day (about 40 minutes to Rogers Pass Center) then ski'd Kicking Horse the next. Cooked some great dinners and had some much needed one on one time. My son actually put down his phone and chopped wood - imagine that! We will definitely be back.

Loved it!

Loved our stay at Chad s place. First the wood work on the chalet is beautiful it is nice to stay in an authentic space. We used it as a base to ski at Kicking Horse and even did a day trip to Revelstoke which was no trouble at all. The chalet is super well appointed, comfortable and perfect for relaxing after a long day out. Will definitely be back when coming to the area.

Gorgeous!

The log cabin was absolutely gorgeous! It has a very peaceful atmosphere and we really appreciated the attention to details in the furnishing. They even have these fantastic European style windows! The wood stove was super easy to use and we were amazed how long it can last while still heating the place. The view of the forest from the balcony was also very relaxing, we really felt we had the entire forest to ourselves. Our kids loved the loft, definitely the highlight for them :). We will definitely come back as it is a perfect get-away close to great places such as Rogers Pass and Kicking Horse.

Backcountry Skiing

We were the first ones in this brand new cabin in the woods and we had an amazing time. Everything was super clean and well organized ! Chad was quick to answer and we got delicious pork chops and eggs from his farm. The cabin is superb and perfectly located for what we came for : ski touring in Golden and Rogers Pass. I highly recommend this accommodation for remote good times :) thanks again for everything !!
